Live Recap: ‘A Night Out With’ Aussie Surf Rockers Hockey Dad and HUNNY at Subterranean

February 11, 2019

Roughly 15,078 km away from their home of New South Wales Australia, Hockey Dad - comprised of duo Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming - made Subterranean feel like home with their catchy surf-rock tunes, with a set that included a stellar mix of hits off of their first two albums. Returning to the Windy City six months after their previous headlining show at Beat Kitchen, the show was twice as packed and twice as fun.

Live Recap: Charly Bliss Bring The High Energy to Lincoln Hall

June 27, 2019

What's this item about? Just last month Charly Bliss released their highly-anticipated second album Young Enough - out now on via Barsuk Records - to a flurry of fantastically positive reviews. It is a definitive glow up from the band’s debut album Guppy that was a short yet powerful 29-minute hit of power pop to the face. Building on the excitement of fresh new material and already beloved “oldies”, the band brought Young Enough tour to Lincoln Hall on Saturday, June 15 with support from Emily Reo. hat makes it interesting? May 14, 2019

When PUP rolls through your town, you know you’re about to experience a cathartic show. And their recent concert at Metro on May 4 was nothing short of a sweaty, moshing sold out dream. INTERVIEW: Sleep On It’s TJ Horansky Talks About the Making of ‘Overexposed’ and Tour Life

November 13, 2017

Along the way of their well-deserved meteoric rise, they also wrote a record – one that I would qualify as one of the best pop punk albums of the year. Released earlier this month, Sleep On It’s debut album Overexposed, available on Equal Vision Records, is moving, cohesive and a wide-eyed look into the talent the band wields as a whole.

REVIEW: Gleemer’s ‘Anymore’ Offers a Deep-Seated Cathartic Catalyst For Your Emotions

November 24, 2017

Gleemer’s Anymore is a considerate production that is precisely put together and succinct, marrying gentle atmospherics and huge fuzz-drenched catharsis? On Anymore, Gleemer has collected a grand and excellent set of songs and that they hope to bring its listeners a little comfort, if only for a moment...

With Emo Rap on the Rise, Lil Aaron is here to Soak in the Notoriety

October 17, 2017

With that in mind, it is no surprise the infamous rise of artists such as Lil Aaron – who is merging his love for 2000’s popular emo with undeniably catchy raps. Yes, popular emo as I am not sure if Lil Aaron is all too familiar the original emo bands such as Texas is the Reason, Jets to Brazil or even The Promise Ring. Lil Aaron labels himself as a scene kid as well. He rocks bright neon hair and is making it his mission to resurrect the scene kid, high-teased, side-swept bangs, types rawr XD at the end of his texts, Hot Topic-style aesthetic, and all while bringing his beloved aesthetic to the forefront through his Soundcloud raps.

REVIEW: The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die – Always Foreign

September 29, 2017

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die are normally known for their blissful and boisterous cinematic music, yet on their third album Always Foreign, TWIABP have traded in that delicateness for a much darker thought-provoking sound.

REVIEW: Stand Atlantic – Sidewinder EP

September 19, 2017

About 30 seconds into Stand Atlantic’s Sidewinder title track, you’re hit with lead singer Bonnie Fraser’s tenaciously robust alto voice belting out with such conviction and just a ting of hurt that it makes you wince about never compromising yourself in a relationship and not forcing something that isn’t meant to be – a lyrical motif that can be heard throughout the album.

REVIEW: Seaway bring classic pop-punk vibes to their third studio album “Vacation”

September 15, 2017

Six years as a band and a newly minted third full-length record Vacation – available now on Pure Noise Records – Seaway has developed into their own sound, one inspired by the pop punk heroes that came before them. On Vacation, you can hear how the band has evolved since Colour Blind, honing in on a refined sound that is cohesive and solid, not to mention really, really fun.

September 05, 2017

In the current state of pop punk, it is hard to keep up with all the fresh new faces popping up on the scene, but I beseech you to stop what you are doing and give Bearings a listen. The Canadian pop-punk band formed in 2014 with the creative intent to make music that is equally personal and empathetic.
